The article highlights how methane-eating microbes can turn a potent greenhouse gas into climate-positive products, spotlighting Mango Materials’ work converting waste methane into biodegradable bioplastics.
Mango Materials’ Vacaville production facility will host a new state-of-the-art gas fermentation pilot unit acquired by BEAM Circular, integrating with the company’s pioneering methane-to-PHA biodegradable polymer platform and expanding access to scale-up capabilities for gas fermentation technologies.
Mango Materials is tackling plastic pollution by using a microbial process to convert waste methane, such as biogas from wastewater treatment, into biodegradable, often carbon-negative polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) under its YOPP™ brand, with a goal to scale up production to compete in the global plastics market.
By converting waste methane into biodegradable PHA polymers, Mango Materials is paving the way for a circular textile future—offering a bio-based alternative to conventional polyester that can enter a soil- or landfill-friendly life cycle.
