Clothes are being made at a rapid pace and entering the waste system just as fast. In Anthropocene Magazine, Veronique Greenwood discusses how we got to the fast fashion movement and highlights unique solutions to address the end of life issues of garments, including Mango Materials’ biopolyester.
Greenwood states, “One company in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mango Materials, has been working for eight years on commercializing a process in which bacteria convert methane into a biodegradable plastic; last summer, the company found a way to spin the substance into polyester-like fibers that can be used in clothes.”
